PRESENT TENSE

Definition
Simple Present is used:
  • to express habits, general truth, repeated action or unchanging situations, emotions, and wishes.
  • to giving instructions or directions
  • to express fixed arrangement
Example:
1. I smoke (habits)
2. I work in London (unchanging)
3. London is a large city (general truth)
4. You walk for two hundred meter, then you turn left (giving instruction)
5. Your exam start at 9 a.m. (fixed arrangement)


The Pattern:
A. Verbal Sentences
(+) S + Verb I + Complement
(-) S + don't/doesn't + Verb I + Complement
(?) Do/does + S + Verb I + Complement


Example:
(+) I like mango
(-) I don't like mango
(?) Do you like mango?

B. Non Verbal Sentences
(+) S + to be + noun/adjective/adverb
(-) S + to be + not + noun/adjective/adverb
(?) to be + S + noun/adjective/adverb


Adverb of Time:
  • Always
  • Every
  • Seldom
  • Often
  • Ussually
  • Sometimes
